Francisco Gonzales, 31, is a prison artist originally from Tijuana, Mexico, who explains that art is a "a good way to say what you feel inside." The Joker (2004) reflects what an inmate at times wishes to be, he explains, noting that "prison is not nice." Gonzales donates any proceeds he realizes from his work to the Prisoners Rights Project of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
