Former Mayor
Anthony Williams accepts inmate art from Prisons Foundation President
Helen Thorne at a November 2 press conference held by the DC Commission
on the Arts and Humanities and the Mayor's Office to announce $4.5
million in FY 2006 funding for DC artists and arts organizations. The
Prisons Foundation, one of the grants recipients, gave the mayor a
Brian Cole picture of Miles Davis.
Cole, 53, is a prison artist and art tutor at Rivers Correctional
Institution, Winton, North Carolina, where a number of inmates from the
DC area are held. Cole's art and the work of other prison artists is
available through the Prisons Foundation by clicking here.
